Literature Text

Walking out into the dark,
you take me to your favorite place on earth.
And I'm questioning why as you look to the sky,
to the memories I run from.
"Do you understand that we will never be the same again?"
"Yes, these are the days that bind us together, forever."

Standing on the cliff-face, the highest fall you'll ever grace,
there's an albatross around your neck:
a wonderful part of the mess that we've made.
Now words are all we have.
We used to swim in your stories and get pulled down by their tide.
But if you close your eyes,
we are the last people standing.

Oh, tell yourself how it's going to be,
Oh, to see what it means to be free.
But I don't want to face the world in tears.
